The Center for Teaching Excellence at Duquesne University is hiring a full-time (12 month) Assistant Director for Educational Development with a start date of August 1. For this multifaceted position, we seek an individual who is highly organized, self-motivated and collaborative. The position requires an understanding of faculty and graduate student development in the larger context of US higher education, as well as college-level teaching experience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Guides the CTE team in planning the Center’s complex workflow, timelines, and communication by:
coordinating about 60 CTE events annually (e.g., workshops, orientations, annual celebration of teaching excellence)
creating protocols for CTE operations and making decisions about how the Center’s work is documented
communicating independently about CTE initiatives with Duquesne administrators, deans, faculty, graduate students as well as with regional and national colleagues in faculty and graduate student development
Directs the overall, ongoing assessment of CTE by:
providing aggregate faculty development data to schools conducting specialized accreditation and academic program review
overseeing data collection on CTE program quality, impact, and progress toward our stated goals and co-authoring the CTE annual report
Manages the CTE budget, purchasing, and payroll and supervise the Center’s student workers.
Oversee the center’s web presence and develop new web content on college instruction and academic career success.
Provides educational development for faculty and graduate students by:
designing and presenting workshops, book studies and orientations
leading collaborative projects with other Duquesne units
consulting about teaching and learning topics
Participate in ongoing professional development by:
staying up to date on research-based teaching/learning and faculty/graduate student development practices
contributing to the field of educational development regionally and nationally
Master’s Degree (discipline open)
Teaching experience in higher education
Familiarity with the literature and practices of teaching and learning in higher education
Leadership among colleagues in areas of teaching and faculty career preparation
Experience working with multidisciplinary and diverse groups of people in a professional setting
Outstanding interpersonal, oral, electronic and written presentation skills
Sensitivity to the need of each individual to be treated with dignity and respect as it relates to diversity in general and the Mission of the University specifically.
