The senior access assistant position works with students and staff to provide equitable access across campus and provides specialized assistance as required.
In general, a senior access assistant can expect to spend variable amounts of time on the following tasks:
• Provide 1:1 assistance for students and staff, as assigned; • Assist navigation of inaccessible course content or materials, such as providing visual description of pictures/graphics or submitting materials online when course technology is inaccessible; • Fulfill note-taking and lab assistance requests; • Assist testing coordinators by proctoring, scribing, and reading exams as assigned in the Testing Center; • Work with the Document Conversion unit of the DRC to convert materials as needed; • Back-up the DRC receptionist; • Train student employees; • Attend DRC and OED all-staff meetings; • Other duties as assigned. This is a 100% full-time position with benefits.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: • High School Diploma/GED and one year general office/clerical experience. Training/education may substitute for some of the experience. • Ability to work with others; • Background in math and/or science and/or computer science; • Attention to details; • Experience with people with disabilities; • Organizational skills; • Flexible and accommodating; • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and listening skills); • Able to maintain boundaries (i.e. when scribing and reading without tutoring, explaining, or coaching); • Must be comfortable taking notes in class and working independently; • Desire to work with students and staff members with a variety of disabilities; • Familiarity with computers (both PC and Macintosh) and accompanying software applications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • At least one semester of experience as an access assistant; • Ability to learn new computer software quickly; • Creative problem-solving skills.
