Dept Marketing Statement Under the direction of the Assistant Dean of Students, the incumbent serves as the Coordinator for Student Conduct for Conduct and Community Standards. Responsibilities include but are not limited to managing the student conduct system and processes; developing policies, educating the campus community about the student conduct process and other relevant issues; serving as a resource/consultant to students, faculty and staff. Student Conduct & Community Standards serves as the campus office of record for student conduct and related files, maintaining confidential records, and ensuring institutional compliance and reporting. Incumbent serves as the 'responsible official' for specifically designated conduct cases.
The Division of Student Affairs and Success (DSAS) provides campus-wide coordination and leadership for student success programs and activities across departments, divisions, colleges, and administrative units. DSAS includes the Student Success Evaluation & Research Center (SSERC), Student Achievement and Equity Innovation, Student Health and Wellness, the Career Center, and Student Development and Engagement/Dean of Students.

Job Duties 40%: Student Conduct Administration, Coordination, and Adjudication
Works collaboratively with the Assistant Dean of Students for Student Conduct in managing the campus' student conduct process system for approximately 19,000 students with a focus on students residing off-campus, graduate students, and student organizations.
Coordinates student conduct case management (as appropriate) with the following entities: College Student Life and residential life personnel, Student Organizing and Advising Resources, the Dean of Undergraduate Education, the Dean of the Graduate Division, the Director of Summer Session, provosts, the Title IX Officer, ITS staff, Campus Police and the District Attorney.
Responsible for the management, adjudication and timely resolution of incidents of alleged violation of University policy including but not limited to the following categories: Allegations involving alleged criminal charges which have been forwarded to the District Attorney; threats of violence; Allegations arising from student demonstrations; Allegations of misuse and compromise of UCSC computing systems; Allegations of policy violations that occur off campus where the University has jurisdiction.
Interfaces regularly with senior administrators on complex conduct cases, formal hearings and appeals.
Investigates and adjudicates disciplinary cases that may result in a student's suspension or dismissal from the university. May issue administrative sanctions including warning, probation; may recommend to the AVC-Dean of Students sanctions of suspension or dismissal.
Ensures consistent and responsible handling of student conduct cases on campus, taking into consideration campus safety needs, the rights of the individual and other legal requirements, and the provision of opportunities for student development. Consults with Campus Counsel as appropriate.
Serves as a resource to the campus regarding the Code of Student Conduct and other University policies.
Represents the University in student conduct matters with local, state, and federal agencies, including the District Attorney's Office, local police and private attorneys retained by students.
Develops and implements systems of assessing the quality and effectiveness of student conduct programs; establish ongoing quality improvement methods. Creates systematic programs to improve quality and manage risk.
Serves as an administrator for the student conduct database and serves as a backup contact for the database vendor.
50%: Hearing Coordination
Coordinates university hearings such as Title IX appeals, student grievances, and formal code of conduct hearings in collaboration with CHES conduct office and The Dean of Students Office.
Identifies board members based on relevant criteria and recommends nomination for appropriate review.
Prepares and trains board members for hearings.
Advises board members on UC hearing policies and procedures.
Facilitates communication between parties involved in hearings, including but not limited to students, their advisors, attorneys, and witnesses.
Proactively advises students of their rights and responsibilities.
Assists with the management of administrative duties related to board hearings.
Impartially enforces hearing procedures.
Manages logistics for room arrangements.
Interprets UC policies and procedures for hearing participants.
Supports board members, ensures compliance with timelines, guidelines, process, policy, etc.
Manages and coordinates documents relevant to the hearing board.
5%: Education and Training
Provides training/education sessions and on-going information for key campus staff and managers involved in student conduct and discipline process.
Develops and implements a comprehensive curriculum for conduct education including the delivery of workshops and initiatives to provide proactive education around student rights and responsibilities.
Conducts regular outreach events for students.
5%: Other Duties
Provides analytical and operational support related to special projects assigned by the Assistant Dean of Students, Associate Dean of Students and Chief of Staff, and/or Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students.
Serves on campus wide committees and work groups as designated by the Assistant Dean of Students.
Serves as a backup Complaint Resolution Officer for the Student Grievance Process as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Demonstrated experience and expertise related to student conduct issues at an institution of higher education, including knowledge of student development theories and their application, especially as they relate to student conduct.
Related administrative experience in an institution of higher learning.
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills sufficient to develop, teach, and lead workshops and conduct public presentations.
Excellent interpersonal, cultural fluency and conflict resolution skills. Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated ability to work independently on sensitive, confidential, often volatile, and complicated issues with tact and political acumen.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including demonstrated experience in handling difficult conversations with tact and diplomacy, interacting in a consistently professional and effective manner, and maintaining poise and composure in potentially stressful situations.
Demonstrated ability to analyze problems/issues, gather data and information, evaluate and recommend alternative solutions, or effect solutions with a tolerance for ambiguity and change, when necessary.
Demonstrated technical skills sufficient to comprehensively use a complex and secure database.
