Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey is seeking a Business Manager II Supervisor for Student Accounting, Billing and Cashier Services. Under the direction of the Senior Business Manager, the Business Manager II will be responsible for central oversight and management of $1.5 billion dollars of tuition revenue in the fall, spring, third term, summer and winter academic periods for the legacy Rutgers and Rutgers Biological Health Sciences (RBHS) student population, spanning over 70,000 students across 4 campuses.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Assists with the preparation and distribution of 1098T tax documents.
Serves as the departmental policy and procedures officer; responsible for ensuring that all departmental policies and procedures are documented, complete, up-to-date, and disseminated to staff.
Reviews processes, benchmark with other organizations inside and outside the organization, research best practices, consult with colleagues and carry out impact assessments.
Subsequently drafts updated policies, procedures, templates and supporting documents accordingly.
Responsible for leading process improvement initiatives in order to maintaining efficiency and quality in the work setting.
Evaluates current business practices, looks for ways to improve productivity, reduce costs, makes the best use of the business's resources, and assist with the transition to a new Student Information System.
Leads initiatives for 3rd party and vendor billing and collections for the legacy and RBHS campuses.
Is primarily responsible for leading project teams and work groups, collecting performance data, and working cooperatively with the department, other divisions of the Controller's Office, and other Student Service departments such as the One Stop Center, University Financial Aid, Registrar, Admissions, and others to facilitate those goals.
Responsible for gathering information from students, parents, internal and external staff and departments, and third-party vendors and partners, in addition to any statistical data to develop strategies for process improvement and ensure that any such strategies proposed and implemented are feasible.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, communications or other related field.
A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible supervisory and/or managerial experience in a University Student Accounting environment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of college and university student financial accounting procedures and practices required.
Strong verbal and written communication abilities, including experience in writing documents such as business requirements, policies and procedures, RFI/RFPs, etc. required.
Demonstrated experience with business system analysis and/or process improvement required.
Ability to demonstrate strong leadership and supervisory/management skills and be able to efficiently manage support staff and projects.
Excellent communication skills as he or she will be expected to regularly interact with management, staff, vendors, consultants, and a wide variety of technical and business liaisons from inside and outside the University community.
Possess a high level of administrative skills and excellent organizational ability and the ability to deal effectively with stress, pressure and the challenges of the operation.
Ability to identify and implement necessary changes in policy and procedures as warranted in order to maximize the efficiency of the department's operations.
Ability to efficiently multi-task, manage and complete several projects at the same time, successfully prioritize work, and effectively delegate responsibilities.
Ten (10) years or more of progressively responsible experience in a University Student Accounting/Business Office environment strongly preferred.
Prior experience interacting with academic, student service, and/or HR/Labor Relations departments on a daily basis strongly preferred.
Prior experience with working with the Rutgers University network and computing systems, specifically knowledge of student systems including Student Accounting, SRDB, FAMS, etc. strongly desired.
Prior experience with Oracle Cloud General Ledger systems.
Strong demonstrated aptitude with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, Tableau and Powerpoint.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Expected to travel between and work out of multiple locations (Busch Campus, College Avenue Campus, Off campus) on a regular basis.
Occasional travel to the Newark and Camden campuses is required, as well as travel inside and outside of the state, in order to attend trainings, conferences, meetings with vendors, peers from fellow higher educational institutions, etc.
