The University of Southern Californiaâs Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences is seeking to hire a Director of Pre-Health Advising. The Director will lead a team of advising professionals to guide students through academic preparation for the various fields of pre-health and to supervise the pre-health application process. This position will report to the Associate Dean of Admission & Student Services in order to support and serve our undergraduate students. USC Dornsife is in the midst of an ambitious project to redesign its undergraduate post-graduate experience.Â The successful candidate will serve in support of a faculty-assisted effort to define the structure and content of a world-class liberal arts education for the 2020s, with attention paid to large introductory âgatewayâ courses, and on developing techniques that aid retention and close achievement gaps among specific populations.
Key Responsibilities for the Director of Pre-Health Advising and Post-Graduation Studies will be:
Lead a team of professional staff to assist with support and advisement for students in the fields of pre-health. Develop and maintain consistent training and professional development, fostering talent and encouraging career growth.
Experience in advising within a science or health-related field. Should be knowledgeable about entrance requirements for medical, dental, veterinary, and allied health training programs.
Develop, measure, and sustain key retention and outcome efforts.
Conduct workshops, information sessions, admission presentations, and individual/group meetings to assist current undergraduates and post baccalaureate science students in preparation for healthcare profession programs.
Develop and maintain relationships with admission officers at professional and graduate schools by attending professional meetings, gathering current information on program admission requirements, and representing the university at national and regional conferences.
Masterâs degree or higher from an accredited institution.
Undergraduate and/or graduate degree in STEM field preferred. Medical background high desirable.
Ten years of experience with and/or commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, in support of an inclusive and welcoming environment.
Exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Experience working collaboratively with faculty and staff, including consideration of curricular design and academic policies and procedures.
Experience with models of integrated academic and career advising.
Familiarity with the use of current technology.
Ability to work collaboratively and creatively to solve problems.
