Job Description Summary Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Wellness & Prevention, the Health Promotion Specialist mobilizes, generates and sustains health promoting programs and practices that contribute to student success and development. This position develops, implements, and evaluates a holistic, strategic and comprehensive program grounded in theoretically informed practices, evidence supported strategies and a socially inclusive framework. The Health Promotion Specialist addresses institutional co-curricular and curricular goals by increasing students' physical, emotional and behavioral health capacities in order to optimize personal development, engagement and academic success.
In addition, the Health Promotion Specialist manages a departmental peer education group and supports campus substance use prevention and interpersonal violence prevention work including the provision of motivational interviewing and bystander intervention trainings. This position provides mentorship for graduate and undergraduate student interns within the office, and coordinates campus assessment related to health behaviors and capacity.
Design a theoretically grounded, comprehensive and inclusive programs that support the department's priority promotion areas of stress and resilience, connectedness, quality sleep, healthy substance use and sexual & relational health. This is accomplished by addressing such health needs at the individual, interpersonal and community levels within a socioecological framework.
Planning, implementation and evaluation of theory-drive and evidence-informed programs and strategies that build skills and encourage adoption of healthy behaviors
Assist in the development of strategic priorities and measurable objectives for health promotion
Recruit, train and advise a team of peer health educators in the development and evaluation of peer to peer health promotion workshops, campaigns and events
Support campus-wide prevention and response efforts for substance use and interpersonal violence including provision of motivational interviewing and bystander education facilitation.
Master's Degree in related field OR Bachelor's Degree in related field plus certification as a Health Education Specialist (CHES or MCHES)
At least 2 years of experience in higher education or related field
Experience working with adolescents/young adults.
Strong knowledge of health promotion and student development theories.
Extensive knowledge of current and emerging issues in college health and adolescent development
Experience in educational program development, implementation and assessment
Exceptional communication and presentation skills
Experience in research methods, including quantitative and qualitative, and program evaluation
Fiscal management skills
