Reporting to the Vice President for Student Development and Campus Life, the Executive Director of Residence Life and Operations serves as the senior housing officer of the University and oversees a comprehensive residence life program designed to promote the University's learning and student success-centered mission. The Executive Director of Residence Life and Operations is responsible for establishing and implementing extensive short/long range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitoring and evaluating programmatic and operational effectiveness; enacting changes required for continuous improvement; and hiring, training and supervision of full-time and paraprofessional staff members.
The Executive Director of Residence Life and Operations provides leadership that ensures programs and services are aligned with the divisional and University goals and that programs and services facilitate a living environment conducive to the changing needs of students.
Provide vision, leadership, and oversight for all aspects of the university's comprehensive Residence Life and Operations program.
Conduct annual revenue planning and occupancy projections in partnership with the Vice President for Student Development and Campus Life and members of the business/finance office.
Provide leadership, implementation, and oversight of departmental strategic planning processes, human resources functions, and policy development needs.
Establish departmental priorities supporting student learning and success by fostering and maintaining partnerships across the university to develop departmental programs and services that effectively compliment the Lasallian mission, vision, and values of the university.
Identify and prioritize renovations to residential facilities.
Engage and support a diverse campus community and foster a welcoming, supportive, and safe inclusive environment that promotes connection to campus life.
Ensures the hiring and employment of quality personnel by supervising the selection, training and evaluation of all Residence Life staff members.
Foster strong team and training opportunities among full-time staff members and Resident Assistants that allow for excellent student-centered service and active engagement.
Maximize housing occupancy by coordinating marketing efforts, monitoring the application and assignment process, and defining residency appropriate requirements.
Establish and maintain a statistical reporting system depicting residence hall occupancy, design capacity and develop strategic targets and rate increase recommendations.
Proficiency with common software related to Residence Life operations including housing assignment and conduct management software.
Assess program outcomes and goal achievement by providing opportunities for student evaluation of the residential life system and the implementation of appropriate recommendations.
Promote appropriate communication with all constituents by advising and working with students, families and staff concerning housing issues and concerns.
Prevent institutional liability by ensuring departmental compliance with existing University, state and federal policies and procedures.
Facilitate a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
Facilitate the resolution of emergency or critical situations by responding to such incidents involving residential facilities.
Promote a safe and secure environment through implementation of various awareness programs, the distribution of materials/equipment, and the maintenance of equipment and hardware which contributes to the security and safety of the residential community.
Serve on college committees as requested by the Vice President for Student Development and Campus Life.
Attend required programs, events and/or meetings on behalf of the Vice President for Student Development and Campus Life.
Participate in on-duty rotation responsibilities as a University administrator.
Assist with the organization and implementation of divisional workshops, staff meetings and special projects.
Assist the Vice President for Student Development and Campus Life in providing appropriate and coordinated responses from the University to personal and campus emergencies involving students.
Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Student Development and Campus Life.
Master's degree in higher education administration, student affairs, leadership, student development, counseling, or a related field.
A minimum of five years of progressive responsibility in the areas of housing and residence life that includes staff supervisory experience.
The candidate should have experience in residential education, living learning communities, facility, and budget management preferably at a small/medium private liberal arts institution.
The successful candidate must be knowledgeable about best practices for the profession.
The candidate should possess exceptional communication, customer service and human relations skills.
The candidate must understand facilities master planning and renovation construction projects; and an understanding of legal issues and risk management.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to effectively manage challenging issues with creativity that focuses on a student-centered approach.
