In close consultation with the Director of the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Director, the EOF Intake Specialist will manage ongoing strategic communications between prospective students, their families—as well as school counselors, advisors and other community partners who are critical to the EOF Admissions process.
S/he will be responsible for managing an applicant pool and for reviewing and any materials submitted by the applicant for the purpose of admitting into the EOF Program.
S/he is also expected to communicate with prospective students, primarily by in-person appointments, telephone, email, texting, social media sites, and video/virtual chat on the admissions process and opportunities at Mercer County Community College.
S/he is also expected to provide financial aid support to EOF applicants and EOF students. Lead the department in verifying EOF eligibility for new incoming students. The specialist observes and supports students on the completion of federal and state documents as requested by the Financial Aid Office and HESAA. The EOF Financial Aid Specialist also works closely with Financial Aid to assist students regarding their financial aid status.
The Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Intake Specialist reports to the Director of the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF). S/he may also be responsible for academic advising, educational, personal, and financial counseling to EOF students. S/he serves as an advocate with faculty and/or staff, ensuring that academic development related functions of the department achieve expected outcomes.
Essential EOF Intake Specialist Duties and Responsibilities include the following: • Support the mission statement of the Educational Opportunity Fund Program • Primarily responsible for marketing and recruitment services and outreach activities with area high schools, community agencies and organizations to identify significant numbers of students that meet EOF application guidelines and regulations. • Visits middle schools and high schools to speak to groups and individual students and meets with school counselors and administrators to promote outreach activities. • Assist EOF applicants and current EOF students with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form or NJ Alternative Financial Aid Application. • Counsels and advises applicants and students about financial aid eligibility, procedures, verification, and award process. • Screens applicants to determine they meet EOF Household Income and Assets Guidelines. • Responsible for building and maintaining community connections. • Assist WWC/JKC admissions offices with planning and participates in recruitment activities targeting disadvantaged and minority students. • Represents the college and the EOF program in the community on matters pertaining to student programs and services. • Develop knowledge of federal and state regulations and local demographic and employment trends to determine impact on enrollment. • Provides career and academic counseling, planning, and advising to potential students utilizing specific knowledge gained of the college’s educational programs and degrees. • Monitor students EOF financial eligibility via NJ FAMS. • Assist applicants and students with submitting additional information to HESAA. • Assist applicants and students with completing the state or federal verification process. • Recommend program and policy changes which will increase applicant yield and improve the public image of the EOF Program within our internal and external communities. • Assist with FAFSA workshops, presentations, and other College and community events. • Manages confidential information in accordance with FERPA. • Assist in outreach efforts to increase completion of FAFSA, state verification, SAP appeals, and federal verification. • Assist with assessment efforts by distributing and collecting outcomes data for student assessment and program evaluation. • Participates in the development of operating goals and objectives for the department; recommends, implements, and administers methods and procedures to enhance operations, as appropriate to the EOF department. • Advises and councils students in academic, financial aid, career, and personal matters, and assist with the placement and registration of new EOF applicants. • Participate fully in the college management system and use assigned resources effectively. • Assist the EOF Director in development and implementation of selected programs and activities that promote student retention. • Responsible for submitting monthly, quarterly, annual reports. • Other duties as assigned by the EOF Director and the Executive Dean of Student Affairs &/or the President.

Education and/or Experience o Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, plus one to two years related experience and training preferably in an post-secondary opportunity program or o Master’s degree (M.A.) in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology
• Language Skills Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. S/he has an ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. S/he has the ability to effectively present information and responds to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. S/he has the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Reasoning Ability S/he has the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Ability to travel to various high schools, local community partners and within the two campuses.
• S/he has the availability to work evening hours.
