The inaugural Director of Institutional Equity, Diversity and Inclusion will lead, guide and strategically develop the implementation of initiatives, programs, and events that promote diversity, equity and inclusion in support of Tidewater Community College's strategic plan and mission. This position works in collaboration and partnership with our College community to create and sustain a diverse, inclusive, and equitable learning and working environment. This position reports directly to the President. While reporting to the Office of the President, the position will require continuous, high-level collaboration with a view toward ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion college-wide.
Develop and implement college-wide diversity, equity and inclusion strategies in support of the college's strategic plan and mission.
Provide leadership and serve as a resource within the TCC community to ensure the coordination and implementation of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives that are transformational, data-driven, and support long-term strategic goals.
Act as a liaison between the college and the larger community in order to increase outreach and partnership opportunities in support of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Partner with the Office of Human Resources to develop and assess strategies and opportunities to recruit and retain a diverse workforce that is reflective of the diversity of the student population and community we serve.
Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness to gather and review data on diversity, equity, and inclusion that can inform a continuous improvement approach to TCC's policies, practices, and processes and equity in student success.
Coordinate and support efforts to improve inclusion, diversity, and equity services and programs related to strategic planning, professional development and student learning by providing subject matter expertise and creating innovative solutions.
Review current practices and policies, assessing and analyzing the extent to which they support or hinder the collegeâ™s diversity, equity, and inclusion goals.
Partner with the Office of Academic Affairs and faculty to develop and implement inclusive curricula and pedagogical practices.
Partner with the Office of Student Affairs and campus leadership on student-led equity and inclusion activities and initiatives that enrich co-curricular programming and the student experience and promote the recruitment and retention of a diverse student population.
Create a culture of continuous improvement and accountability through planning and assessment. Prepare reports, generate data, and documentation outlining the collegeâ™s status of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Oversee the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council and participate in college committees, workgroups, and taskforces as appropriate.
Collaborate with the Virginia Community College System on diversity, equity, and inclusion matters.
Work with the College President to develop presentations, draft presidential speeches, and other special reports as needed, including internal and external communications.

Demonstrated experience creating, launching, and managing a diversity and inclusion program.
Progressively responsible experience in dynamic, data-driven Inclusion and Diversity strategic roles, preferred.
Related work experience in a higher education environment, preferred.
Knowledge of and participation in diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices.
Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, regulations, and policies related to equity and diversity.
Demonstrated ability to act as a change agent and to manage personal, political and institutional dynamics related to this essential work.
Demonstrated experience in project development and management.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Strong writing and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated experience in effectively facilitating challenging conversations that produce effective outcomes.
Demonstrated experience with developing and supporting continuous improvement principles and utilizing a systemic approach and data for decision-making.
Demonstrated ability to synthesize and present data to varied audiences.
Demonstrated ability to analyze data and make sound, informed, evidence-based, and well-considered recommendations on complex issues.
Demonstrated understanding of and belief in the comprehensive mission of community colleges.
A master's degree in higher education administration, human resources, public administration, or similar field from an institutionally accredited college or university.
