Simmons is an equal opportunity employer.Job Summary: Simmons University is looking for an Accessibility Coordinator (?Coordinator?) to join the Office of Accessibility Services team, located within the Center for Student Success. Reporting to the Director of Accessibility Services, the Coordinator will assist with review of documentation, the coordination and provision of reasonable accommodations for students with a diagnosis/disability to provide equal access with the primary focus of working with our online programs to support the adult learner population, and maintain files on students who access these services. The Coordinator will work with students individually to provide support and advocacy on issues related to accessibility in higher education and help to remove barriers to equal access both as it relates to academic, field, and clinical accommodation requests. The coordinator will perform other tasks as assigned by the Director. This position is part-time, at 20 hours per week, during the University?s core business hours.Essential Responsibilities: Coordination of Accommodations:Meet with students who are registered with the Office of Accessibility Services individually to review accommodation management including semester schedule, techniques for effective communication with faculty, strategies for time management and provide guidance on steps to registering with the OAS and requesting accommodations;Coordinate services for students who have a diagnosis that requires interaction with outside service providers (low vision/blind, deaf/hard of hearing, etc.);Ensure accommodation requests are fulfilled to provide access to the student in a timely manner;Partner with faculty to educate and address questions about accommodation policy and procedure and escalate any issues to the Assistant Director and/or Director as needed;Review clinic/field education accommodation requests and maintain current knowledge of reasonable on-the-job accommodations to translate to clinic/field education requests;Research and maintain industry best practices as it relates to online accessibility accommodations.Documentation/Policy Review:Assist the Director in reviewing student documentation and approving accommodation requests;Work in conjunction with the Director to ensure that accessibility services guidelines and procedures are in compliance with federal, state, department, and court statutes;File Maintenance and Data Collection:Oversee the input of appropriate, accurate, and detailed student information into the student database;Maintain database of key contacts for accessibility services providers;Document a summary of student meetings via electronic file notes. Qualifications: Bachelor?s degree or equivalent work experience required;Minimum of 2 years of experience in an office related to Accessibility Services required;Knowledge of the Federal Law: Americans with Disabilities Act;Ability to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and in writing with various constituencies including students, faculty, and external providers;Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to build and sustain key relationships with governing agencies, students with disabilities, and all levels of the community;Demonstrated organization skills and strong attention to detail;Ability to work independently as well as part of a team;Ability to manage and maintain sensitive and confidential information;Commitment to working with and fostering an inclusive environment with a diverse population of individuals.Required Application Materials: ResumeCover LetterSalary GradeH04Instructions to Applicants: Please upload all applicable application materials (e.g. resume/cv, cover letter, writing sample, teaching philosophy, etc.) in the "Resume/CV" box on page 2 ("My Experience") of this application.
