Reporting directly to the University President, the Vice President for Student Affairs is a member of the Cabinet and one of six vice presidents of the University. With over 25 departments and programs, Student Affairs provides a diverse set of programs and services facilitating lifelong learning, a sense of personal and interpersonal competence, and human understanding of our global society. These services meet the needs of students as they progress through their college experience and also include problem-solving, research assistance and consultation. With a diverse and comprehensive set of responsibilities, Student Affairs contributes to the campus community a special perspective about our students, their experience, and the campus environment. The successful candidate will be a dynamic leader, effective and empowering manager, an advocate for the campus’s diverse student body, an experienced partner in shared, collegial university governance, as well a collaborator who can continue to build relationships with the community to gain support for and understanding of the institution.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Serves as a member of the President’s Cabinet and Advisory Board and participates in all aspects of institution-wide planning in support of the mission and goals of the University.
Implements and assesses Student Affairs planning strategies, allocates resources and administers a variety of comprehensive student programs and services related to student growth and development. The Division of Student Affairs is committed to meeting the needs of a diverse student population and creating a learning environment where all students have the opportunity to succeed.
Provides executive-level leadership and vision in administration of a comprehensive range of services, policies and procedures related to Student Affairs programming and planning.
Responsible for campus programs, services and activities that support the educational mission of the University by promoting student development and enhancing the quality of the student experience and campus life.
Oversee the Student Affairs Leadership Team and functional areas to include Academic Appeals; Associated Students, Inc.; Assistant Deans for Student Affairs; Admissions; Career Center; Center for Internships and Community Engagement; Diversity Initiatives and Resource Centers; Educational Partnerships; Financial Aid; Outreach, Recruitment and Orientation; Special Populations Teams; Title IX; Women’s and Adult Reentry Center; Student Health Center; Counseling and Psychological Services; Disability Support Services; Dean of Students Office; Housing and Residential Engagement; Student Life and Leadership; and Athletics Administration and Sports Programs.
An earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution of higher education and progressive administrative responsibility.
At least five years in a senior leadership role in student affairs with demonstrated effective leadership in planning, implementing, evaluating, and advocating for a wide range of student-oriented programs with a student-centered approach.
Demonstrated effectiveness and sensitivity to a multicultural environment and a commitment to campus-wide educational equity and retention efforts.
Demonstrated collaborative experience working between all divisions, in particularly between Student Affairs and Academic Affairs and the ability to work effectively with students and faculty.
Demonstrated experience working with a diverse student body and a commitment to student development.
Demonstrated experience in the following:
o In budget management, supervision of a large staff, and staff development and empowerment.
o Ability to work effectively with internal and external constituencies to foster collaboration and engagement between the campus and the broader community.
o Effective communication and organizational skills, dynamic interpersonal skills, and a commitment to civility and collegial governance.
o Evidence of holistic sensitivity to student and academic concerns.
o Familiarity with the application of technology to Student Affairs.
o Experience overseeing efforts in generating external support and fundraising.
o Effectiveness in ensuring implementation of co- curricular student learning outcomes and assessment of student learning.
