The Office of Health Promotion (OHP) at the University of Virginia is seeking applicants for the newly formed position of Health Promotion Specialist. Reporting to the Director of OHP, this position will work with a multidisciplinary team of colleagues in the department and the broader University to develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-informed approaches to reduce the prevalence of sexual violence in the University community. The successful candidate will be adept at using a social ecological perspective to address public health issues from multiple angles including individual interventions, peer education, social norms, community engagement, and policy-based approaches. This position will work closely alongside a Health Promotion Specialist in OHP to integrate programs related to bystander intervention, healthy relationships, and advising of undergraduate student organizations. While students are the primary focus of the endeavors of this position, supporting the wellbeing and health of students necessitates considering and supporting the welfare of staff and faculty. This is a full-time 12-month University Staff position with all state benefits.
A Master's degree in Public Health; Social Work; Women, Gender, and Sexuality; Counseling; Higher Education Administration; or a closely related field of study is required.
Two years of relevant professional experience.
Understanding of the nature of high-risk new member activities in student organizations.
Experience in applying motivational interviewing techniques.
Experience working with all-male student organizations.
Understanding of undergraduate students' development issues, emerging needs, and interests.
Working knowledge and experience in applied research.
The anticipated salary range for this position is $45,000-$55,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will pass both a background check and a drug screen.
