The Associate Dean of Students and Director of Community Living is responsible for the oversight and management of programming and facilities that support the learning and development of our residential and commuter student populations. This is a full-time, live-off position with oversight and responsibility for campus residence halls, residence hall programming, and commuter student engagement and success. The Associate Dean of Students and Director of Community Living is a team leader and team player who supports a vibrant and inclusive living and learning environment outside the classroom, through intentionally designed programming that promotes our students’ personal growth, community engagement, and leadership development.
Lead the staff and programming for a residential population of approximately 950 students residing in traditional halls, special interest housing, theme communities, and suite and apartment-style living, as well as a commuter student population of approximately 250 students.
Serve as the primary Housing Officer
Recruit, select, train and evaluate professional and paraprofessional residence hall staff and housing and facilities management staff.
Develop and coordinate the LEAD 121: Leadership Training for Community Advisors course.
Directly supervise a professional staff of 3 individuals, who are responsible for both residential and commuter student programs.
Indirectly supervise a paraprofessional staff of 30+ RAs.
Provide leadership on, and regularly assess, programming and educational initiatives for both residential and commuter student populations.
Serve as College’s chief student conduct officer:
Oversee all aspects of the student conduct process, including management of Maxient.
Review incident reports, assign cases as appropriate to other conduct officers, and ensure that adjudication and sanctioning is occurring in alignment with the College’s procedures and values.
Serve as a hearing officer when necessary.
Oversee review, revise, and develop educational sanctioning processes and monitor completion of sanctions, re-referring students who are out of compliance., and educate about College policies and procedures and conduct policy review, development, and revision as necessary.
Respond to requests for background checks in keeping with the College’s standards of data privacy.
Develop workshops, seminars, and training sessions appropriate for a variety of groups, including Assistant Directors, Resident Assistants, peer mentors, faculty, and staff relating to the student conduct process and Marietta College policies.
Provide appropriate reports as needed.
Serve as Administrator of the Student Accountability Board.
Manage reporting of cases for Clery.
Develop the Annual Security Report and Fire Report with the Marietta College Police Department.
Collaborate with MCPD to ensure compliance with Clery regulations.
Coordinate Behavioral Intervention Team.
Plan, analyze, and manage departmental budgets.
Manage and participate in senior-staff on-call duty rotation for nights and weekends.
Manage on-call duty rotation of live-in staff members in the Division of Student Life.
Respond to crises; assess and refer at-risk students for additional intervention by appropriate personnel and develop proactive policies and initiatives.
Manage and participate in daily operation of residence halls; key management; room assignment for new and returning students; check-in and check-out processes; and billing for rooms, meal plans, and damages.
Manage opening, closing, and break housing plans for residence halls.
Manage summer housing and selection, training, and supervision of summer paraprofessional staff members.
Develop marketing and communication materials to increase awareness of services and events occurring within the office (opening, closing, break housing, etc.).
Maintain residence hall inventories; coordinate furniture and appliance purchases for residence halls and manage associated budget lines.
Communicate frequently with the Director of Physical Plant to monitor residence hall maintenance schedules, maintenance concerns, and planned improvements. Work with Director of Physical Plant on project timing, communication with students and families, and identifying needs in the residence halls.
Collaborate with campus colleagues, including, but not limited to: Marietta College Police Department, Center for Health and Wellness, Student Financial Services, Physical Plant, Student Accounts, Dining Services, Academic Affairs (especially the Academic Resource Center and its Disabilities Services Coordinator), colleagues in Student Life, Admissions, and members of the faculty to support student engagement and success.
Collaborate with staff in Student Life, Conference Services, Dining Services, and Marketing and Brand Management to develop strategy and materials that highlight residential spaces on campus.
Represent the Office of Community Living in a variety of forums both on- and off-campus; attend, conduct, or participate in a variety of committees and meetings as assigned.
Ensure compliance with state and federal laws and campus policies.
Address student and parent issues and resolve them in a satisfactory manner.
Maintain data necessary for federally mandated reports and for internal operational needs, such as College housing trends, occupancy reports, and residential life satisfaction survey data.
Conduct regular reviews of policies and procedures, and then execute necessary updates to materials and communicate any changes in policies and procedures to appropriate audiences.
As a member of the Student Life Council, attend regular Council meetings to collaboratively lead the Division of Student Life in reviewing and evaluating mission, vision, goals, and outcomes.
Attend meetings of the full Student Life staff to share information and gather feedback.
Lead regular meetings of the staff in Community Living, in both group and one-on-one settings, for the purposes of goal-setting, strategizing, evaluation, and supervision.
Provide support for collaborative campus-wide programs and initiatives.
Actively support the college’s recruitment and retention efforts.
This position will also fulfill other duties as assigned.
Master's degree, with preference given to candidates with a Master's in Counseling, College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration. or related area.
Minimum six (6) years’ full-time experience in higher education, with a minimum of three (3) years in Community Living/Residence Life management.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Demonstrated commitment to principles and practice of inclusive excellence.
Proven ability to effectively manage multiple projects.
Ability to engage and work in collaboration with campus partners, both within and outside of Student Life.
Ability to work independently.
Availability to work evening and weekend hours as required by programming schedules.
Valid US driver’s license.
Prior experience managing graduate or professional staff preferred.
Experience in Title IX investigation and/or administration desirable.
Prior experience delivering for-credit coursework in leadership development preferred.
