First Year Experience, Student Affairs Administration
The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Office of Campus Life seeks an individual to serve as Coordinator, First Year Engagement. Reporting to the Assistant Director for Campus Life, the incumbent will work within the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Life specifically to support student leaders in creating a welcoming, vibrant campus culture, as well as paths to deep involvement in campus life. Specific duties include: develops and implements creative strategies for recruiting and training student Welcome Week Leaders, connecting students with student organizations and involvement in civic engagement, and enacting and promoting campus traditions such as Homecoming and Welcome Week and advising student media organizations; develops and implements assessment plans and builds sustainable partnerships related to this position; works with the Academic Engagement & Transition Program Office to support first year experience courses and initiatives; assists in the development and implementation of a comprehensive Campus Life program that empowers students, provides leadership experiences, builds community, and enhances academic endeavors; participates in and contributes to broader Campus Life efforts to support a culture of deep community engagement at UMBC; and performs other duties as assigned.
This position requires a Master's degree in Student Affairs or related field. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills are essential. Preferred qualifications include: one year of experience in Student Affairs or Student Services, experience with new student programs or college orientation; knowledge of college student development principles; demonstrated commitment to meeting the needs of diverse student populations and new college students (particularly first generation); ability to interact effectively with broad campus constituents and community partners; excellent organizational and time management abilities; and comfort with high-paced, dynamic work environment and a strong team player mentality.
