The Executive Director of Residential Living reports to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Campus Services. The Department of Residential Living manages operations in thirteen residence halls with a total capacity of over 4100 residents including a residential Honors College and multiple living-learning communities, an annual budget of approximately $18,000,000, and a work force exceeding 250 full-time, part-time, and student employees. This position is responsible for providing leadership, administration, and general oversight for the Department of Residential Living, a comprehensive housing and residence life program. The Executive Director of Residential Living directly supervises the Director of Residence Life, the Director of Facilities Services, and the Director of Residential Operations. A highly visible member of the university community, the Executive Director of Residential Living interacts daily across divisional lines to enhance residents’ academic and personal growth and development. The successful candidate is expected to work collaboratively with all segments of the university community through education, consultation, advisement, and referral. This position ensures that the Residential Living program supports the vision and mission of the institution and encourages and supports student learning, satisfaction, and retention. Further, the executive director represents student housing to senior university administration while leading a highly respected auxiliary unit whose mission is building learning-centered communities through individual support and respect. The successful candidate will be a creative student affairs professional who is passionate about the profession and has the talent to incorporate best practices into the organizational culture.
A master’s degree in Business, College Student Personnel, Educational Leadership, Public Affairs, Human Resources, or other related field is required. This degree must be from an appropriately accredited institution. An earned doctorate in a related field is preferred. Candidates must have at least eight years of progressive administrative experience in comprehensive housing and residence life operations. A demonstrated ability to create partnerships and work collaboratively with students, staff, faculty, administrators, and other members of the community is paramount. Further, demonstrated experience in budget and fiscal management and demonstrated experience working with diverse populations is required.
