The Associate Vice President- Student Life (SL) serves as a strategic member of the Student Life Senior Vice President's executive and planning teams; collaboratively conceives, designs and implements SL strategy, organizational changes and initiatives, with the SVP of SL and the SL leadership team. As part of the Executive team, will be assisting in leading ongoing organizational transformations and emerging opportunities in the areas of student development and creating synergies across the departments. Acts as the SVP's representative in various meetings, events, committees and activities, as delegated. Provides leadership support to the Directors of a portfolio of departments in Student Life, to ensure the Student Life strategic initiatives and priorities are being met, and to strategize for effective implementation of said priorities. Assesses progress and participates in evaluations. Serves on leadership and planning teams. Responsible for oversight and maintenance of the established departments’ programmatic, managerial, financial and operational environments to ensure adherence to established philosophies, and alignment with SL and university priorities, and to ensure students’ evolving needs are met. Ensures effective stewardship of university resources, performs other senior level development activities as required.
The Office of Student Life consists of more than 40 departments, all dedicated to creating the extraordinary student experience for every Ohio State Buckeye. Specifically, this position will be responsible for:
Within 30 days, establish an understanding of OSU and Student Life procedures and policies. Develop effective relationships with all assigned Directors and Executive peers. Successfully complete all Student Life and University training courses.
Within 60 days, gain a complete understanding of role duties and responsibilities. Build strategic relationships within the Office of Student Life and in collaboration with key department stakeholders across the university.
Within 90 days, make recommendation on programmatic, process and financial improvements and goals to Senior Leadership.
The successful candidate for this position will have demonstrated success in several areas, including:
PhD in Higher Education and/or Student Affairs or related academic or related field including Juris Doctorate, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated extensive experience managing administration in an institution of higher education (10 years or more).
Proven extensive experience developing and managing complex organizations and operations (5 years or more).
Extensive experience in a progressively responsible leadership position (10 years or more).
