Position Summary: Dean of Students. Georgia Southern University seeks nominations and applications for the Associate Vice President and Dean of Students. Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Associate Vice President provides leadership in student services within Georgia Southern University to the following functional units: Dean of Students Office, Student Integrity, Alcohol and Other Drugs, Residence Life, TRIO, Disability Services, and the Student Government Association. Provides vision and strategic direction for student services for all campuses of the University.
Fosters planning and decision-making informed by internal and external data derived from sound assessment and emerging trends and practices to meet the changing needs of students.
Oversees the administration, including budget development and resource allocation for identified departments.
Provides leadership and oversight, in cooperation with the Directors of other functional areas, in directing the use of appropriate resources for departmental support.
Serves as a campus leader and resource during crisis events that impact students and is responsible for the execution of student integrity, behavior assessment, and other formats of student advocacy.
Serves as an appeals officer in rulings of the University Student Conduct Board.
Serves as a liaison or intermediary in student non-academic disputes with other students, faculty, and staff.
Chairs the Behavior Assessment Team.
Consults with Chief of Public Safety on student affairs matters.
Serves as staff advisor for the Student Government Association.
Assists University and Division with University recruitment events, including scholarship interviews, on-campus open house, counselor lunches, and recruitment fairs.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Effective communication (verbal and written), organization and human relations skills; ability to work well in a diverse environment; proficiency with computer and Microsoft Office Applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; legally authorized to work in the United States; successful completion of background investigation prior to employment.
Preferred Education: Doctoral Degree in Higher Education or related field
Preferred Experience:: Demonstrated success directing student affairs programming at a public university; previous experience in crisis management, and conflict resolution; previous experience providing leadership at a multi-campus university
