University Housing at Coastal Carolina University seeks dynamic individuals for the position of Assistant Director for Resident Success (Student Services Manager I) reporting to the Director of Resident Success. University Housing is experiencing exciting and rapid growth. With the opening of four new residence halls over the past three years, University Housing is home to more than 4600 students. Coastal Carolina University is located in historic Conway, South Carolina, just nine miles from the Atlantic coastal resort of Myrtle Beach, one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the nation. It has an enrollment of 10,000 students and is expected to have continued growth for the next several years. The University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and schools to award baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral degrees. Coastal Carolina University offers baccalaureate degrees in 51 major fields of study and 40 undergraduate minors. The University also offers master’s degree programs in business administration, education, and coastal marine and wetland studies, as well as a doctorate in marine science. The Assistant Director (AD) is a full-time live-off staff member who serves as a mid-level manager in the Resident Success unit within University Housing reporting to the Director of Resident Success. The AD will be responsible for the direct supervision of masters-level Community Coordinators (CC), indirect supervision of Resident Advisers (RA), and the collaborative supervision of a full-time Resident Success Specialist (RSS) and student Desk Assistants/Desk Managers (DA/DM). The AD will be primarily responsible for the creation of a positive community focused on resident safety and success in collaboration with other University Housing and Coastal Carolina University staff and faculty. Duties include, but are not limited to: managing resident communities including policies, procedures and protocols with specific emphasis on crisis response, license agreements, the Code of Student Conduct, and professional conduct of staff at all levels; selecting, supervising, training, and assessing staff; managing administrative tasks; promoting and ensuring exceptional customer service to all constituents; collaborating with University offices; and serving in administrator on-call capacity. Qualifications Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Student Affairs, or Higher Education Administration, three (3) years of related professional experience in a university or college student housing setting, and prior experience as a live-in/live-on student affairs/housing professional on a college campus are required. Five (5) or more years of related professional experience and prior direct supervision of graduate or professional staff is preferred. A successful candidate will possess excellent written and oral communication skills with public presentation ability. Must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable three (3) year driving record. Able to work evenings and weekends during peak times of the year and able to respond to on-campus crisis and emergencies within 30 minutes. Able to attend overnight conferences and drive state vehicles transporting staff and students for work functions, including students attending regional and national conferences. Physically able to walk through communities, including up/down stairs in communities without elevators. Considered “essential personnel” and required to participate in campus-wide emergencies such as weather and structural emergencies. Additional preferred experience includes fiscal management, responding to student behavioral issues including crises, adjudicating student conduct cases, co-curricular programming based in student development theory and practice, promoting academic success and social justice within a community, familiarity with residential facilities, competence in primary computer applications, database management, and attention to detail in administrative responsibilities.
