Department Summary: The Office of Student Involvement and Leadership is an administrative department established to cultivate diverse and challenging involvement opportunities for Bridgewater State University students. Through campus-wide program development, and advising roles, the department will offer students the chance to develop leadership skills and experience interpersonal interaction that will enhance their personal and academic lives. Student Involvement and Leadership provides guidance to BSU’s 80+ student organizations, including fraternities and sororities, and supports the planning and implementation of over 400 events per academic year (including 70+ planned by Program Council). The office also oversees the day to day operations of the Rondileau Campus Center, working to create a welcoming environment for all members of the BSU community.
Position Summary: The Associate Director is responsible for creating and supporting a strong co-curricular student experience at Bridgewater State University. This position is responsible for collaborating with various campus entities to create a robust campus life focused on the engagement and success of all student populations with an emphasis on commuter students. Responsible for advising and supporting recognized student organizations, including fraternities and sororities. Responsible for the planning, implementation and assessment of programs and services for students, student organizations and advisors to advance student organization success, develop leadership competencies and enhance personal growth.
This position has a tour of duty that includes a schedule with frequent evening and weekend requirements. Flexibility is expected based on departmental needs and objectives in alignment with the academic calendar year.
This is an exempt, APA unit position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.

Essential Duties: 1. Advise and coordinate all activities of fraternities and sororities and their governing organizations, including Panhellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, Greek Activities Committee, and Greek Advisory Board. 2. Lead departmental initiatives designed to support all student organizations including oversight of student organizations event planning, student organization policy development and recognition of new student groups. Assist with administering a student organization development program including but not limited to policy review, recognition, training, travel and event approval processes. 3. Assess needs and coordinate the planning and implementation of leadership and educational programs for students, registered student organizations and student organization officer development 4. Oversees the development of programs and services that support commuter student success 5. Serves as a departmental leader for policy development and strategic planning for use of the Rondileau Campus Center as applied to priorities for commuter student engagement and use of the building by individual students and student organizations. 6. Plan and implement assessment efforts that inform data driven decision making for areas of responsibility. Coordinate data collection and analysis regarding student involvement and key measures of satisfaction, retention, organization success and student success. 7. Exercise independent judgment when resolving issues relating to risk management, conflict resolution and event planning. 8. Serve as advisor to identified student organization(s). Advise and mentor student leaders as appropriate. Conducts regular meetings with student leaders, organization advisors and key external constituents 9. Represent the university, division, and department on committees as appropriate. Serve as institutional representative with local advisors and national offices of Greek letter organizations. 10. Direct engagement with NPHC organization leaders on behalf of the institution with a future goal of NPHC expansion. 11. Utilize diversity and social justice practices to promote student success as it relates to both core duties of the position and overall mission of the department. 12. Lead or participate in department sponsored, campus-wide leadership initiatives. Coordinate departmental involvement in new student initiatives, including departmental roles in Orientation, Accepted Students Days, and Weeks of Welcome. 13. Manage or participate in the management of evening and weekend programs and events as assigned or as directed by departmental calendar and needs of student organizations. 14. Serve as secondary budget manager for accounts under the auspices of the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership. 15. Train, supervise and evaluate graduate assistants and office student employees assigned to functional areas of responsibility. 16. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: 1. Master’s Degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education Administration, or other related field 2. Four years of professional experience in student activities, including experience with Greek letter organizations and advising student organizations (Graduate Assistantships in Greek Life will be considered) 3. Budget management and prior experience supervising full-time staff.. 4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and program development skills are essential. 5. Ability to maintain flexibility. 6. Ability to build working relationships with students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds. 7. Ability to work nights and weekends as required.
Preferred Qualifications: 1. Familiarity with a wide range of leadership education approaches and literature for developing college student leadership. 2. Prior experience in advising multicultural fraternities and sororities.
