Elizabethtown College seeks an innovative, inspirational leader in the capacity of Vice President for Student Life who will provide an inspiring and supportive environment for our students.
The College enrolls 1,700 students on its residential campus in Elizabethtown, and 700 working adults in its School for Continuing and Professional Studies with sites in Harrisburg, Lancaster, and York and through on-line education. The College offers undergraduate degrees in the humanities, social, natural, and physical sciences and mathematics, and professional studies, in addition to six master’s degrees. The College has been nationally recognized for its Signature Learning Experiences, Prestigious Scholarships Program, First Year Program, commitment to peace studies, and mission of “Educate for Service". The College has received significant funding from the U.S. Department of Education, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Science Foundation, and numerous private foundations. It is a member of the Landmark Athletic Conference. The College’s academic buildings have all been recently constructed or renovated.
The College is located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, near Harrisburg, and two hours from Washington, DC and 90 minutes from Philadelphia.
The Vice President for Student Life oversees all aspects of student life, is a member of the President’s Senior Staff, and serves as liaison to the Student Life Committee of the Board of Trustees. Assisted by five senior level administrators, the Vice President oversees and advocates for academic advising, athletics, campus security, career services, the center for student success, civic engagement, counseling, disability services, multicultural affairs, residence life, religious life, and student rights and responsibilities. The Vice President serves on the College’s major administrative committees that advise the President on budget, construction, enrollment management, employment policies, hiring, and strategic planning.
The Vice President will help the College implement its second Strategic Plan under the leadership of President Carl Strikwerda, continue to develop a more diverse and inclusive campus community, and oversee the opening of the College’s innovative new Bowers Center for Sports, Fitness, and Well-being in 2019.
Five to seven years of progressively responsible senior management and leadership experience in student life or related field
Working knowledge of applicable federal laws and regulations including ADA, FERPA, Title IX, Clery Act and VAWA
Demonstrated experience in innovative and creative student development models
Demonstrated experience leading a residential academic community
Ability to carry out strategic planning, manage budgets, and oversee personnel management.
Effective computer proficiency and skill
Current valid driver’s license
Master’s degree in student affairs or higher education
