The Department of Residence Life at University of Illinois Springfield is seeking an energetic, student-centered Resident Director with excellent communication skills for full-time live-in campus position. RD is responsible for providing comprehensive day-to-day Residence Life functions, administration and management, and staff supervision in residence hall or apartment area which is home to established living/learning communities. Responsibilities: supervising 5-9 Resident Assistants; development of programs and community-building activities; intervention in crisis situations; resolution of judicial incidents; advising of individual students; liaison with university staff and departments; promoting and marketing the university. Required to live in assigned 2 bedroom apartment as evening and weekend availability is expected; police background check if selected for hire.
The Department of Residence Life: Bed capacity has more than doubled during the last decade, while arguably providing some of the finest state-of-the-art Housing opportunities for students in the state and GLACUHO region. UIS’ growing and increasingly diverse student population draws residents not just from Central Illinois, but from domestic urban locations and international constituencies as well. Future enrollment growth and residence capacity is highly anticipated. An $8.5m. multi-year renovation project for the vast majority of older and original apartment housing units on East campus was concluded Fall 2012. Department is a strong student-centered component of a highly committed “Students First” Division of Student Affairs. Academic partnerships exist with the Capital Scholars Honors Program, and with other Student Affairs-based living/learning community collaborations (established or under consideration).

Required Qualifications:Bachelor degree in appropriate field; minimum three years previous Residential Life or other collegiate administrative experience; excellent customer service skills; strong communication and interpersonal skills; working knowledge of student development principles; supervisory experience and guidance skills; leadership ability in resolving conflict.
Preferred Qualifications:Master degree in appropriate field; experience with traditionally-aged 1st and 2nd year students in living/learning communities and/or experience with transfer, graduate, and/or international students; 2 or more years of experience beyond undergraduate student level; demonstrated commitment to principles of diversity and inclusion
Additional Salary Information: -12-month full-time Academic Professional position
-Salary of $28,000 - $35,000 annually, commensurate with prior education & experience. Range with Bachelor degree is $28,000 - $30,000. Range with Master degree is $30,000 - $35,000
