Xavier University is seeking applications for the position of Student Services Advisor-Academic in TRiO, Student Support Services. TRiO, SSS is a grant funded program that supports students who are first generation, low income, and/or have a disability. This position is full time for 11 months. The Student Services Advisor-Academic may be required to work evenings and weekends as needed.
The primary responsibilities of this position are to provide comprehensive counseling services in the areas of academic, personal, and career counseling, success coaching and keep confidential case notes; monitor students’ progress toward general education components; assist participants in establishing realistic short term and long term goals concerning academic achievement, personal growth, career development and cultural awareness; teach seminar series based upon participants’ needs and program goals; maintain relationships with academic oriented offices; facilitate peer and professional tutoring programs; accompany and supervise participants on cultural activities and trips; and any other tasks that are assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
Master’s degree or equivalent in an appropriate discipline such as higher education/student affairs, education, guidance counseling, college student personnel, psychology, social work or related field or working toward the completion of an advanced degree.
Two years or more experience in an educational setting working with low-income, first generation, and students with disabilities or a TRiO program. Counseling college aged students.
Proven ability to conduct academic, professional planning, financial literacy and personal workshops, coordinate programs, and work collaboratively with other offices across campus.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Understanding of the Jesuit mission of Xavier University.

Be able to effectively handle multiple projects while always putting student needs first. Be able to handle interruptions and unexpected work. Meet deadlines and respond to student/family concerns in timely manner.
Must be able to effectively and efficiently use technology to manage work and to assist students. Must be proficient in Excel and various student record and student management platforms.
Be able to write complete and error-free messages to students and families. Create publications and demonstrate essential customer service skills in all forms. Always demonstrate a welcoming demeanor to visitors.
Be able to use copiers, computers and printers and understand how to obtain support during equipment malfunctions.
Must be able to write and speak clearly and respectfully in electronic and written forms; in groups and in one-on-one situations. Must also be capable of creating publications and training documents as well as website content.
