Seeking team oriented, motivated and student success-focused candidates for the Coordinator of Student Development Position at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
The Coordinator of Student Development (CSD) is a generalist position that provides the opportunity to work on a variety of tasks and initiatives on a daily basis. In addition to the administrative coordination of a residence hall or apartment community housing 275-1200 residents and the comprehensive implementation of a learning community based program, the CSD position also supervises graduate and undergraduate student staff, advises student government, is a University Hearing Officer for behavioral situations, provides on-call coverage, and is responsible for developing and maintaining faculty and staff partnerships.
University Housing staff work collaboratively, both within Learning Communities and with campus allies to implement team decisions focused on supporting students’ academic and personal success. University Housing provides a competency based orientation and skills acquisition model to assist CSDs in developing the skills, knowledge and abilities they need to further their professional goals and attain future positions within and outside of Student Affairs. After serving three years in the position, University Housing is committed to helping staff move to the next level in their career by providing assistance with resume review, interview preparation and opportunities to explore other positions within the campus environment.
Successful candidates will possess:
Master’s degree by date of hire
One year of professional student services experience (two years of graduate internship experience may apply towards the one year of professional experience)
Strong time management and organizational skills
Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate orally and in writing, in an effective and approachable manner with diverse constituencies, including students, staff, faculty and parents
Ability to work in a team environment
Ability to take initiative
Experience supervising student staff
Previous experience working within a learning community-based housing and curriculum model
Previous residence life work and/or leadership experience
Ability to collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and enhance partnerships
Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check
Additional Salary Information: This is a full time, live-in, academic-year position with the opportunity for summer employment and rehire for up to two additional years, based upon performance. Coordinators of Student Development are provided with a furnished one or three-bedroom apartment in their assigned community and a meal plan.
