The Academic Success Center at Berry College is seeking a professional in higher education with expertise in supporting students with disabilities and learning differences. The Assistant Director of the Academic Success Center will coordinate accommodation services for students with disabilities and work alongside students, faculty, and staff in support of students' academic success. The Assistant Director will also be an active partner in the Center’s wide-ranging programs that support Berry College students. The person in this position will report to the Center's Director and will provide academic consultations, work to support student and professional staff in the department, and participate in broad academic success initiatives along with other colleagues in Academic Services.
Essential Functions of the Position (Major Duties and Responsibilities) include:
Work with students with documented disabilities to review documentation and put in place appropriate accommodations
Work with faculty and staff to ensure accommodations are adequately provided and offer guidance on accommodating students with disabilities
Contribute to the overall mission and goals of the Academic Success Center through supporting student and professional staff and participating as a part of the broader Academic Services team
Provide Individual Academic Consultations to Berry College students
Fulfill administrative tasks including record-keeping, establishing policies and procedures, and assessing services and student-client success
Engage in continued professional development and scholarship through research, conference attendance, and other means.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Disability Support: Must know federal regulations and best practices related to supporting students with disabilities and providing appropriate accommodations. Student Support: Must know best practices in student development and student support to provide academic counseling to students with and without documented disabilities. Administrative Expertise: As an Assistant Director, this person must be able to aptly perform administrative tasks like collaboratively creating policy and procedure, reporting and assessing, and providing leadership and guidance for student and professional staff. Collaboration and Communication with Campus Partners: Must be able to communicate clearly, consistently, and professionally with colleagues inside and outside of the department to provide support for students, faculty, and staff.
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in related field as well as 2-5 years of related experience, including work completed during a graduate program.
