Residence Director (graduate) position for the 2018-2019 academic year.
The university is a part of the State System of Higher Education and enrolls 6,000 undergraduate and 1,000 graduate students. Shippensburg is located in South Central Pennsylvania, overlooked by the beautiful Appalachian Mountains. The university is near many state and national parks, historical sites, and other attractions. The area is also very accessible to numerous East Coast cities; including Harrisburg, PA (45 minutes), Baltimore, MD (2 hours), Washington, DC (2 hours), Philadelphia, PA (3 hours), Pittsburgh, PA (3 hours), and New York City (4 hours).
The Residence Director is a live-in position that supervises a residential community on campus. Each RD must be enrolled in a graduate program in College Student Personnel, College Counseling, or Organization Development and Leadership. The College Student Personnel and College Counseling graduate programs at Shippensburg are CACREP approved, and preference is given to those students enrolled in College Student Personnel. Each Residence Director is limited to 6 credit hours per semester and 3 per summer term, thus making the position a 3-year commitment.
Residence Directors are responsible for all aspects of their residential community. They supervise all hall staff, advise hall council, adjudicate judicial hearings, serve as a facility liaison, as well as assist students with all aspects of ensuring a proper community. Hiring preference will be given to individuals who: are committed to multiculturalism, demonstrate sensitivity and understanding of student issues, and have past residence hall experience and/or leadership experience.
