Coastal Carolina University is seeking an Academic First Year Advisor (full-time, annual appointment position with benefits) in the College of Science. This position will work closely with Department Chairs in advising students within their major.
Duties include, but are not limited to: maintaining regular contact with students from building their schedules before summer orientation to assisting during each registration as students follow or adjust their plan of study; providing students with feedback on their academic progress; assisting the Chair or Chairs in providing all students within the department accurate and timely information on academic majors, university policies and regulations, and additional academic support services; meeting with students during their freshmen year; and working closely with the Associate Dean and the other college advisors in developing, implementing, and evaluating retention strategies. Academic Advisers will also teach one course each semester (UNIV 110 or courses in their discipline), and/or offer supplementary workshops and study sessions.
Normal work hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday with occasional weeknight, weekend, and as needed hours.

Requirements: A bachelor's degree in a discipline within the College of Science and some experience related to advising or mentoring students is required. A master's degree in Student Services is preferred.
